TIP: Photoshop CS4 / CS5 Layer Drag

In CS4 I have been using the default doc window feature which keeps things organized. However, I also find that it to be frustrating because I often want to move a layer from one PS file to another but it was not that easy… or was it? In the past my solution was to copy and paste layers between files, but after some research I found a solution.

First create or open two files:

1. Click the layer that you want to move (or shift select multiple layers) in the layer menu
2. Now make sure you have the move tool selected
3. Click and drag the objects from the canvas to the tab of your other document
4. Hold the mouse, clicked down until tab turns white

1. Now drag the object onto the canvas
2. Tada…. Magic
